Nia

Dance Nia means
“Dance With A Purpose” and it is a non- profit
501(c)(3) the organization focuses on giving quality dance
training for all students as well as instilling the love of
dance as a discipline, and the pursuit of excellence. Our
organization benefits inner city youth who cannot afford the
training.
The organization
provides a varied dance curriculum with classes including
ballet, liturgical, modern, jazz and African. Other
workshops and classes enhance the students' total
well-being; fundamentals of rhythm for dancers to
entrepreneurial skills and basic etiquette workshops. Dance
classes are currently provided through
volunteer instructors.

Creative Movement
(3-5)
Creative Movement is an hour class designed for pre-school and
kindergarten age children. Teachers combine stories and music to
develop rhythm, flexibility, coordination, and space awareness. When
students complete this level of dance, they will have a strong
knowledge of ballet terms that will help them as they begin the
transition to classical ballet training. For more information, see

Ballet (5-12)
Ballet is a class that serves as a transition from creative movement
to formal ballet training. Students are still encouraged in their
creativity but will begin to learn to stand and move with proper
ballet technique and body alignment. Once students complete this
level of dance, they will have a solid foundation of classical
ballet terminology. They will also start an introduction formal
ballet with a new emphasis on barre work along with center

Ballet (12-Adults)
This class is for ages 12 through Adult. This is a beginning ballet
class. Students are not expected to have any previous dance

Jazz
This class is for ages five through 12. This is a beginning jazz
class. It is important that students taking this class are also
taking a ballet class. Ballet is the foundation of all dance and it
is important that jazz dancers have a strong ballet foundation. This
class incorporates lyrical as well as modern dance into the

African
The goal of this class is to gain the fundamentals of African dance
and the history of its development. This dance class is based on
techniques of African Tribes such as Zulu; where they focused on
unity, cooperate economics and family celebration. This form of
dance is high energy, exciting and full of rhythm for more

Liturgical
People often view Praise and Worship as the same. Some believe you
can move in and out of the two, based on the direction of the song.
This class teaches you the difference. The goal of this course is to
kill the spirit of entertainment. It teaches how to apply biblical
principles as it relates to dance. Learn about the prophets who
danced and the terminologies and techniques they used for Warfare,
Travail, Prophetic, Celebration, Praise and Worship. For more

Pointe – Level I
Pointe Level I is a class that serves as a transition from ballet to
formal pointe training. Pointe is an accelerated version of ballet.
Everything learned in ballet will be used in pointe. Students are
still encouraged to use their proper ballet technique and body
alignment training. Once students complete this level of dance, they
will have a solid foundation of pointe terminology. The student will
learn the basics such as control, plie’s, foot positions, arm
positions, and turns on pointe. They will also have an introductory
formal pointe class with a new emphasis on barre work along with

Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a class that allows the students to have fun learning the
latest dance steps that are seen on the music videos while dancing
for the Lord. This is a fun, high energy, class for all ages.
